Usually when fly-rod fisherman think of surf casting, notions of huge 12’ surf rods, 4-5 ounce monster lures and 6+ feet of crashing surf in your face comes to mind. There is indeed plenty of that type of sport in Montauk but our style of fly-rod surf casting is a whole other thing. Montauk. the very tip of a peninsula jutting over 100 miles out into the Atlantic , is blessed with fabulous coastal fishing on both the ocean and the calmer Sound beaches. To make it even sweeter, Montauk also has many inland harbors, salt lakes and estuaries. These calm bait-rich waters are irresistible attractions to a variety of game fish.

The fishing style is knee-deep wading while casting surface poppers and streamers to stripped bass and blue fish in calm wind protected waters.
